Los Angeles is a great city for sightseeing. With just an hour's drive, you can be skiing on the mountains or watching the sea at the coast. It's really convenient and there are too many scenic spots to list. If you only have one day off, then go to Palm Springs.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a 360-degree revolving cable car that lets you see mountains with all their magnificence. Once at the top, you can enter San Jacinto Mountains National Monument and follow a winding path down to a plain. It snows heavily here in winter, so it's great for snowball fights, building snowmen and going sledding on several hills.
