The blue Walter Pyramid, a campus landmark and the school's multipurpose gymnasium, stands tall on 18 stories. The 5,000-seat facility is flanked by retractable auditoriums with large hydraulic devices that rise 45 degrees into the air when necessary, creating space for five volleyball courts or three basketball courts inside the gymnasium. The CSULB basketball team's name is 49ers and they are regular in NCAA championships. Our kid who loves basketball stayed around to watch them practice while we were there.
