Visiting Nara Park is a must for anyone visiting Japan. There, you can get really close to the deer--so close that you can feel their breath on your skin! The deer are so tame and friendly that if you bow to them, they will return the salute.
I also highly recommend visiting Himeji Castle, one of the most magnificent castles in Japan. It was named Shirakaba Castle because of its glossy white plaster covering its exterior, and its location on a hill in the middle of a plain. The main structure has a five-story one-day guard tower, supplemented by three smaller towers. The building is surrounded by a moat and defensive ramparts with small holes for archery and shooting in rectangular, circular and triangular shapes.
