In October, let's go and check out the world's largest hot air balloon festival! 😍

Last summer, I was bored and thought about going to New Mexico, which I've always wanted to visit!

Originally, I was focused on the national parks and Santa Fe, but when I was doing my research, I found out that Albuquerque, the capital of New Mexico, actually has the world's largest hot air balloon festival, and it's the 50th anniversary this year! So I immediately booked my ticket and set off!

The entire festival lasts for a week, with the most hot air balloons on the first two days and the last day. During the Mass Ascension, you can witness the spectacular sight of hundreds of hot air balloons ascending into the sky. I've attached this year's schedule (10/7-10/15) on page 9, so you can reference it to plan your itinerary. If you want to take a hot air balloon tour, you'll need to make a reservation on a specific website, but it's very difficult to get a spot.

Tickets need to be purchased in advance on the official website. If you want to avoid the hassle of traffic and finding parking, you can also buy a Park+Ride package. The ticket only includes entry, so if you want to leave for lunch and come back in the evening, you'll need two tickets (note for those who are driving: parking fees need to be paid twice, and it's cheaper at night than during the day). The ticket can be used on any day of the festival, so you have flexibility in choosing when to go.

The most spectacular hot air balloon ascension is in the early morning, so it's best to leave early. The traffic near the main venue will be very congested, and some highways may be temporarily closed, so make sure to allocate enough time. But don't worry if you don't arrive by 7 am, because the hot air balloons ascend continuously, so you'll still be able to see different scenes between 7 am and 9 am. Hot air balloons have strict requirements for weather conditions, so the specific takeoff time and whether they can fly depend on the weather on the day. When planning your trip, don't forget to check the weather forecast.

In the evening, there will be an "ignition" ceremony, where each person will periodically light the burner on their own hot air balloon. The scattered lights in the wilderness create a wonderful atmosphere. Many people prepare small cards for their hot air balloons, and both children and adults pretending to be children (cough..) can collect and exchange cards, which brings great joy to collectors!

There will also be a drone light show in the evening, with surprising duration and patterns, which will make everyone in the village go wild.

In October, there is quite a temperature difference between morning and evening in Albuquerque, so I suggest bringing a light jacket. As for clothing, feel free to wear various colors, as there will always be a nice matching hot air balloon!

In addition to regular hot air balloons, there will be many special-shaped balloons. If you come across a hot air balloon shape that you like, make sure to quickly rush over to take a photo. Once they take off, you can only admire them from afar. If you miss it, you can look for pins with the same design in the market area. They are reasonably priced and a great souvenir!

Let's go, everyone!
