Must-try food in Penang: ✅ Michelin-rated Hokkien Mee
Hokkien Mee, also known as prawn noodles, is one of the most representative and ubiquitous foods in Penang.
✅This time-honored eatery has been in operation for nearly 60 years and is now on its third generation of owners. They have maintained their traditional flavor, and every bite is filled with authentic Penang taste.
There is no "best" Hokkien Mee dish in the world, only the one that suits your taste buds the most. Luckily, this Hokkien Mee happens to be my favorite! They not only serve prawn noodles and braised noodles, but also dry noodles with the option to add extra toppings like pork ribs, pork intestines, braised eggs, and more. Prices are very reasonable.
✅Their soup is made from prawn shells and boiled to produce a fresh and sweet broth. It is then paired with their homemade chili sauce, adding a touch of spiciness to the taste.
Aside from the Hokkien Mee, their "yin-yang" soup (shrimp soup + braised soup) is also a must-try. The broth is still full of fresh shrimp flavor, and every sip takes you back to the olden days.
These old-fashioned flavors are slowly disappearing, so please don't let them fade away with the passage of time! That's why every time I visit Penang, I always stop by this restaurant to have their prawn noodles, since it's hard to find such an authentic taste in Kuala Lumpur.
