✨There are now many routes from the U.S. back to China that transit through Taiwan. Holders of Chinese passports are not able to leave the airport in Taiwan, and I spent 8 hours in Taoyuan Airport this time, so I got a comprehensive understanding of the airport. Here is a guide for those who need to spend time there.
In fact, Taoyuan Airport is not large, but it is quite suitable for "layovers", and there are free lounges, showers, reclining chairs, massage chairs, etc.

1⃣ Varied VIP Lounges:
If you have a priority pass (available with the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card), you can go to the Oriental Club's VIP lounge. It has food and drink in a pleasant environment, as well as treadmills and showers. If you have status with other airlines, you can also check to see if you can access their corresponding VIP lounges. I took a business class flight with EVA, so I entered the EVA Infinity lounge. They provide luggage storage and private bathrooms. In my opinion, it is much more comfortable than the free bathrooms available in the airport.

2⃣ Massages:
There are several places with massage chairs and masseuses in the airport. These are located in the corridors between T1 and T2, and at T2 itself. The massage chairs are free. You can obtain coins from the service desk. Each person is allowed one coin for a 15-minute massage, but typically, if you ask for more, you will be given more. If you want a masseuse, it will cost you, but the price is certainly cheaper than in the U.S. They only accept cash, and all currencies are welcome.

3⃣ Shopping:
Duty-free luxury goods in Taiwan do not have particularly low prices, so I wouldn't recommend shopping extensively unless you see something you really like. There are many small stores featuring uniquely Taiwanese items such as Hello Kitty merchandise, music boxes. Consider the famous Taiwanese pineapple cakes as souvenirs. I once bought Kavalan whiskey, as it is cheapest and unique in Taiwan.

4⃣ Dining:
One of the well-known places is Lin Dong Fang Beef Noodles, located in the T2 food court. There are a couple of restaurants that offer meals to the Priority Pass holders. The food in the various VIP lounges is good too: If not drinking soya bean milk for a long time, you may enjoy it in the EVA VIP lounge. In Oriental Club, I had purple rice porridge and braised pork rice.

5⃣ Rest:
If you want to sleep, there is a free lounge in Terminal 1. There are long benches where you can lie down, and the lighting is dim which provides a calm environment. It is said that it's quite popular at night, so you might need to secure your spot early. China Airlines' VIP lounge also has recliners, depending on who has the VIP card. There are actually hotels that could be booked without leaving the airport, but they are currently under renovation.

6⃣ Others:
This airport has themed waiting rooms, such as forest and movies themes, which can be fun to explore. In Terminal 1, there's a hallway displaying Fang Wenshan's lyrics.

⚠️If you dislike all of the above, it's suggested to download some of your favorite shows in advance and find a comfortable chair in the airport to watch them!
