Why should we learn first aid skills?
Nowadays, we often see news about first aid in the media or on social media platforms, such as sudden cardiac arrest, drowning, airway obstruction, etc. Some people have managed to save their lives through first aid, while others have not been so fortunate. As social and life pressures increase, young people and white-collar workers are experiencing increasing cases of sudden cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death.
✨According to estimates by relevant agencies, the number of sudden cardiac deaths in our country exceeds 540,000 people annually. However, the success rate of rescue is less than 1 percent. In contrast, the average rescue success rate in some developed countries is 10 percent, and in some cities and regions, it reaches 30 to 50 percent.
Sudden cardiac death is the sudden onset of heart disease leading to cardiac arrest, which often results in sudden death due to the inability to treat the condition in time. There are many causes of sudden cardiac death, but the key to saving a life is within 4 minutes of cardiac arrest, also known as the "golden 4 minutes."
✨ The best time and method for rescuing sudden cardiac death is to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED defibrillation within the first 4 minutes of the onset. Due to traffic conditions and other factors, it is often difficult for the emergency ambulance service (120) to arrive at the scene within 4 minutes. Therefore, for all of us, learning and mastering some basic self-rescue and rescue knowledge, helping patients at the first opportunity, is essential for alleviating the consequences of accidents and implementing effective rescue.
✨ The function of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR):
The purpose of chest compression is to manually "pump" blood, squeezing blood into the organs throughout the body, preventing organ necrosis due to ischemia and hypoxia. It ensures blood supply to vital organs, and it can also improve the success rate of defibrillation.
✨ The principle of AED defibrillation:
AED defibrillation aims to restore the disordered heart rhythm to normal, that is, to eliminate the "tremor" of the heart and restore its normal blood pumping function.
✨ Both CPR and AED are indispensable!
‼️ Without an AED, having only CPR leads to a low probability of successful treatment, but having only an AED without high-quality CPR can also affect the treatment's effectiveness.
‼️ High-quality CPR can maintain an effective blood circulation in the body, ensuring blood supply to vital organs, and it can also improve the success rate of defibrillation. Most importantly, patients may not recover normal heart rhythm after only one defibrillation, so AED and CPR should be performed alternately, and neither can be missing.
