🏯 Xining Xiwangmu Temple Travel Guide 🏯
Zhamalong Fenghuang Mountain is located in Zhamalong Village, Huangshui Valley, to the west of Xining City, Qinghai Province. It is about 30 kilometers away from Xining and belongs to the residual range of the eastern Kunlun Mountains. The mountain resembles a phoenix with its wings spread, hence its nickname as the "Holy Land of Nine Dragons and Phoenixes."
Xining Xiwangmu Temple is a temple dedicated to the goddess Xiwangmu and is one of the historical and cultural heritages of Xining City. The temple features exquisite carvings, colorful paintings, magnificent temples, and pagodas. Both the architectural style and decorations showcase the unique charm of Tibetan and Han cultures.
🔍 According to legends, Xiwangmu is a goddess in Chinese mythology and Taoism, residing in the Yaochi (Jade Pool) on Mount Kunlun, where the elixir of immortality is believed to be found. Her image evolved from originally having leopard tail and tiger teeth to a human-like form, becoming one of the most important goddesses in Chinese mythology. Xiwangmu has an eternal story with Emperor Wu of Han, as it is said that he once climbed Mount Kunlun to pay a visit to Xiwangmu and received her rewards. Xiwangmu has also descended to the mortal world to attend banquets hosted by Emperor Wu, leaving behind many beautiful legends.
The Sichuan Museum houses a precious artifact from the Eastern Han Dynasty, a painted brick depicting Xiwangmu and the scenic view of the Yaochi. It is a beautifully crafted cultural relic.
The Kunlun mythology transcends ethnicity, religion, and social status, encompassing profound heavenly principles, Buddhist teachings, and various excellent traditional cultural thoughts.
Completing the temple visit may take two to three hours, with incense offerings ranging from 5 to 100 yuan. No entrance ticket is required.
