Explore the Ancient Charm of Zhenshan Temple in Shanghai
Zhenshan Temple in Shanghai is considered a hidden gem and off-the-beaten-path destination. Compared to the grandeur of Jing'an Temple and the bustling incense of Longhua Temple, Zhenshan Temple exudes a sense of wisdom and tranquility.
The architecture of Zhenshan Temple is distinctive, featuring a rich traditional style. In addition to the main halls at the entrance, the highlight is the Zhenshan Pagoda. The pagoda has a total of nine tiers, with an additional mezzanine and an underground palace on the first floor, making it a total of eleven levels. The outer circle of the Zhenshan Pagoda is adorned with metal prayer wheels inscribed with Sanskrit mantras, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight.
In front of the pagoda, there is a pigeon loft where many pigeons can be found. Visitors can get up close and personal with the pigeons and even purchase bird feed to feed them. It's a great opportunity for photography too! Many people specifically come to see the pigeons.
