Du Fu Thatched Cottage | A Space for Time Dialogue Hidden by the Wanhua Creek 🌿✨
In the winter of AD 759, Du Fu arrived in Shu (Sichuan) through Longyou. This was an inevitable choice for his survival during the transition from prosperity to decline in the Tang Dynasty. However, he spent over four years in Chengdu, enjoying the most comfortable and blissful moments. Without wars or farewells, here he was Du Gongbu (a title he held), with a thatched cottage providing shelter from the wind and friends inviting him. The peaceful and leisurely life made him highly productive, with over 240 poems serving as the best testimony to his serene and comfortable existence.
It is often said that the Thatched Cottage is now a large garden park, but this is a great misunderstanding. Today's Du Fu Thatched Cottage is a place of Chinese poetry and a national-level museum. In addition to reminiscing about the poet-sage Du Fu, visitors can also learn about the history of the rise and fall of the Tang Dynasty. Come to the Thatched Cottage and immerse yourself in a personal immersive event of ancient Chinese poetry.
Travel Guide ✨
The Thatched Cottage has four gates: southeast, northwest, southwest, and northeast. All gates can be used for entry and exit. I recommend entering through the main gate (west gate). The main attractions of the Thatched Cottage are arranged along the central axis from the main gate, including Chaimen Gongbu Shrine, the thatched cottage, and other sites. It's a relatively sequential route. Afterwards, walk from the old residence to the Tang Dynasty ruins, then turn left to visit the Poetry Tablet Pavilion, Daya Hall, take photos along the Flower Path, visit the Bonsai Garden, and exit through the north or east gate to Wanhua Creek Park (the detailed route is clear in the hand-drawn map).
As it is a cultural attraction, I strongly recommend taking a guided tour. The four entrances to the scenic area are equipped with self-service intelligent audio guides. There are also guided tours provided by the staff. Online platforms also offer guided tour services for visitors to choose from.
