After doing some research before the visit, I was truly amazed when I saw the grand and magnificent 🏟️Colosseum with my own eyes. Even though I didn't buy the tickets for the underground area, under the 30-degree Roman sunshine, while listening to the explanations, I still felt deeply moved and saddened by the fate of the gladiators who once fought here. This was the entertainment venue for the nobles, and I couldn't help but feel that laughter here would be cruel.
Although the 🦁🐯Colosseum in Rome is a great architectural wonder, it carries the bloody history of ancient Rome. The rise, prosperity, and decline of Rome can all be sensed here.
The full name of the Colosseum is "Flavian Amphitheatre," named after the Flavian dynasty during its construction. It is also known as the "Colosseum" or the "Colosseo" in Italian, which means "tall" or "huge." According to the account of Roman historian Dio Cassius 📚, a 100-day celebration was held by the Romans when the Colosseum was completed. 5,000 ferocious animals were driven to fight against 3,000 gladiators, slaves, prisoners of war, criminals, and persecuted Christians. This bloody spectacle of man versus beast and man versus man lasted for 100 days until the 5,000 animals and 3,000 lives perished in the brutal battles. It was a structure built for the purpose of witnessing death, and in the bloody history of humanity, there is no other building that can be compared to it.
