Welcome to the ancient Spanish city of Toledo! 🌟 This enchanting city is located about 70 kilometers south of Madrid and is renowned for its rich history and unique culture.
🏰 The first stop on your tour of Toledo is undoubtedly the Alcázar, a castle perched on a hilltop overlooking the entire city. Here, you can admire breathtaking views and delve into the city's fascinating history.
🕌 The Toledo Cathedral, a magnificent Gothic structure, is one of Spain's grandest cathedrals. Its interior is exquisitely adorned, featuring notable works such as El Greco's painting "The Assumption of the Virgin."
🕍 The Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes, built in the 15th century to celebrate the victory of the Spanish over the Moors, is a haven of tranquility showcasing stunning Gothic architecture.
🎭 As you wander through Toledo's ancient streets, you will stumble upon charming alleyways and historic buildings. Don't miss the Santo Tomé Church, where El Greco's famous painting "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" is housed.
✨ Other attractions:
The Museo del Greco, open for free on Saturdays after 2 PM and Sundays, is worth a visit, although it does not display any of El Greco's famous paintings. Plaza de Zocodover, Toledo's largest square, is surrounded by numerous bars, as well as a century-old pastry shop called Santo Tomé. Mazapán, a local delicacy, is a Toledo specialty. Personally, it's not to my taste, but if you haven't tried it before, you might want to buy one and give it a try.
